Who is Francois De Lorraine and what does he have to do with Warsaw Public Library?

Francois de Lorraine, the second Duc De Guise, (1519-1563) participated in various battles in the wars of France against Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. He also fought in battles against the Spanish and English. He had great influence over Francis II the French king. After the king's death Catherine de Medicis, mother and regent for the succeeding Charles IX ousted Francois. He then joined the Catholic League and helped to start the civil war between the Roman Catholics and the Protestants. He is known for his generosity and military skill.
